We are so excited to announce that our very own Angus is launching a brand new tour in Edinburgh- The Languages of Scotland! And Angus has decided to use his tour to do good in the city. Profits from ticket sales will be used to support Ukrainian refugees newly arrived in the city.
This will be done by delivering free walking tours of Edinburgh to people who have fled the country, so they can discover Edinburgh and learn about its history. The team at Invisible (Edinburgh) will also donate Edinburgh Goodie Bags to refugees to include Scottish delicacies (fudge and Irn Bru!) but also games and self guided content so they can explore the Capital in their own time.
“People arriving in Edinburgh receive a lot of support from a wide range of charities and social enterprises, with items that are definitely needed: toiletries, useful info, etc But there was nothing in there to promote the culture and history of Edinburgh which is important to learn about too! At Invisible Cities we believe in order to feel at home in a city, it is important to learn about the history, make up and life of the people that are already there, and our hope is that through our little welcome bags, every person coming from Ukraine can feel like they are getting to their new home.”
The tour has been developed in partnership with The City of Edinburgh Council. Over the last two years we have been lucky to work with Ann Paterson, the Capital Gaelic Development Officer and learn the language as well as its origin.
Angus, who is passionate about languages and speaks 7 of them himself, decided to develop a tour introducing to visitors and guests the different languages that were once spoken in the country and the legacy they have left in the city. The tour is not in Gaelic but instead an introduction to several languages and their evolution.
Available every day at 11am, the tour can also be booked on seperate dates and times on request.
We will keep everyone updated about our support to Ukrainian refugees in the city and we hope guests join us in welcoming people into the capital!
